About Alex

I am a licensed Acupuncturist in the state of New York, board-certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).

I frequently work with people who have: chronic pain, sports-related injuries, anxiety, depression, autoimmune conditions, and digestive concerns. I see acupuncture as a powerful tool to address the body-mind manifestations of stress.

I have a particular interest in working with athletes, and in treating acute and chronic injuries and orthopedic conditions. I have helped people both avoid and recover from major surgeries. I have extensive training in treating trigger points (dry needling).

I mainly practice a meridian-based style of acupuncture, although I studied Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Kiiko Matsumoto style, and Acupuncture Physical Medicine, based on the myofascial research of Dr. Janet Travell and Dr. Mark Seem. I continue to study under Kiiko Matsumoto and with other master practitioners such as Sharon Zhao, Frank Butler, and Tom Bisio. I have also completed an apprenticeship in Tui Na and bone-setting, as well as Chinese-based sports medicine.

Before studying acupuncture, I received a Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) in poetry, and taught in the English Department at Brooklyn College for 7 years.

I believe that my background in the humanities makes me uniquely capable as a practitioner and diagnostician of seeing and working with the whole person in front of me, not just the signs and symptoms.
